Touring in support of their fourth studio album and their Nuclear Blast debut, “Ob(Servant)“, Tasmania’s technical death metallers PSYCROPTIC recently played 5 shows throughout the islands of Java and Bali to literally thousands of crazed metal fans each night, breaking new ground and playing in places that no international metal band has ever played.

States PSYCROPTIC drummer Dave Haley: „November was quite a crazy month for PSYCROPTIC…with our first visit to our next door neighbours Indonesia happening, and with us nomitated for quite a few catagories in the first annual metal awards.

Indonesia, you rule! Thanks to all the crazy Indonesian metal fans that came out to see us on our mini-tour earlier in November. It was definitely an eye-opening and amazing time for all of us. We were fortunate to play in Jakata, Bandung, Solo, Malung and Bali. We are already planning the next trip there!!! If you ever get the chance to visit Indonesia – do it! The place and the people are the best! Special thanks to Jason Xenophobic, Soluties, Burgerkill, Age & the Bali metal community, and everyone else who were so welcoming to us. We can honestly say we can’t wait to go back! Indonesia's metal scene is huge, and feels more like a 'community' than just music fans. I can honestly say I've never seen so much enthusiam and passion for music anywhere in the world. What an amazing place…I wish every tour could be as good as that one was!

The day we returned to Australia, we were told we had won quite a few awards at the first Australian Metal Awards that took place in Sydney…which is a nice way to finish off the touring for the year.

We are now working on new material, and will have something to release in 2010!”

PSYCROPTIC swept the categories at the very first Australian Metal Awards in Sydney, Australia clinching the following awards:

· Best Band Name

· Most Popular Merch

· Best Album Cover

· Best Film Clip

· Best Export

· Best Live Band | |

Marcus Hahnemann, goalkeeper with Premiership football team Wolverhampton Wanderers, made it out to the first date on the Five Finger Death Punch / Shadows Fall UK tour at Wolverhampton’s Wulfrun Hall (November 24th).

After Wolves reserves’ clash with Fulham, Seattle-born Hahnemann arrived at the sold-out show just in time to hook up with the Death Punch members before they took to the stage; he gave them both his US national and club shirt, and vocalist Ivan Moody wore the latter onstage.

Hahnemann comments:

“My favourite bands for a while have been Tool, Slipknot and Machine Head, and now I’d say Five Finger Death Punch too. I was recommended to check them out by (fellow US football player & goalie) Kasey Keller this summer, and I’ve been loving it since… although my wife isn’t!

“I’m not too impressed with the radio stations here; back home, you hear a lot of rock and metal, but in the UK you really have to make an effort, which is why the fans are so loyal.
“Most other players at the club like a lot of the top 40 music; pop, R&B, rap, stuff like that. Goalkeepers, though, we’re a different breed! Jamie Young, who I played with at Reading (now Wycombe Wanderers) is a metalhead too, but unfortunately he couldn’t make the show tonight.

“When you wanna get psyched up for training or for a game, you gotta listen to something that gets you going, and for me that’s metal. It gets me pumped up for performing in front of a crowd.”

Five Finger Death Punch's new album 'War Is The Answer' is available now via Spinefarm Records UK.

SABATON joins the Nuclear Blast family

“Nuclear Blast is very stoked to announce another great signing: SABATON – one of the most promising upcoming bands in heavy metal these days! Although they have already released four great albums, they are still unknown to the majority of the metal legions – which is a shame! We noticed the band's potential to become one of the leaders of nowadays metal scene – especially by visiting their festival appearances and club shows.
Together Nuclear Blast and SABATON are prepared for the next step to bring the band on a much higher level! Watch out for their new album in spring 2010!”
(Jaap Wagemaker / A&R of NUCLEAR BLAST)

”After ten years as a band and four albums we have decided what the next step in the evolution of SABATON will be. A contract with the biggest Heavy Metal label in the world has been signed and the next album will be released by Nuclear Blast in the spring of 2010. The last album “The Art of War” touched the hearts of thousands and thousands of metalfans around the world, and with their help we are now ready to hit the studio and record our new album. What way could we better end our 10´th year? See you all in 2010 under the Coat of Arms!”

BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR has confirmed a further two acts for next year’s festival. After being forced to pull out in 2009, it is with great honour, anticipation and a touch of nerves that we can confirm GWAR’s EXCLUSIVE return to the UK. The Grammy-nominated Scumdogs Of The Universe will be flying in from Antarctica to unleash hell on all in attendance. Frontmonster Oderus Urungus warns us of the impending orgy of bodily fluids, nuclear waste and all manner of murder and vulgarity.

“Greetings people of Earth, it is I, ODERUS URUNGUS, lead singer of the BLOODIEST band in metal history, the mighty GWAR! And it is with a sense of toe-curling delight and impending DOOM that I announce the addition of the GWAR to the mammoth BLOODSTOCK Open Air Metal Festival to be held this summer in England. That’s right, from the frozen depths of Antarctica, GWAR brings what BLOODSTOCK needs…BLOOD! Prepare yourself for the most colossal, disgusting, and completely politically incorrect show in metal history! We'll bring the swords, you bring the bodies, and together we shall turn the slam-pit into a seething mass of DEATH not seen in Europe since the fall of Berlin! GWAR is playing BLOODSTOCK…and may the Pope choke on it!”

Next up, Finnish folk-metal heroes KORPIKLAANI will be bringing their band of merry metal to Derby this summer for their only UK appearance of 2010. With a repertoire of upbeat songs, mostly about alcohol and partying, KORPIKLAANI are the perfect band to raise your tankards to while enjoying the festival sunshine. The band are eagerly anticipating their return to the Bloodstock stage:

“We are very glad to get a chance to play in Bloodstock Open Air again after few years. Last time was our first festival in England and the audience was wild and good as always there. We are looking forward to the festival very much already, and we hope there is enough cold beer like the last time.”

The BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR METAL FESTIVAL 2010 will take place at Catton Hall, Derbyshire from 13th – 15th August.

Limited tickets are on sale now until Xmas at the discounted price of £85 for the whole weekend at

Likewise, the current Finnish tour started with sold-out shows in Jyväskylä and Joensuu. Esa Holopainen comments: “After our successful European tour, it feels good to return to the Finnish stages. And it’s great to notice that our ‘home folks’ have not forgotten us. See you at the shows!”

SYLOSIS in the studio

Reading based modern thrashers SYLOSIS entered the studio last Friday to record the follow up to 2008s successfull debut “Conclusion Of An Age“.

The band is working with Scott Atkins who worked on the predecessor.

Commented mainman Josh Middleton: “We're ridiculously excited about starting work on the next album. We're definitely progressing as a band, incorporating some new influences to make an album that's more mature, darker and generally a lot heavier. I've been writing riffs thinking things like „what if (TOOL guitarist) Adam Jones played guitar in DEATH“ haha. The songs are a little longer this time around and a bit more complex and technical which is something that's just happened naturally.
We're just about to start tracking the drums for ten days with producer Scott Atkins. We contemplated using other producers but we all really enjoyed working with Scott and we were really happy with the production on the last album. He really pushes for tightness and understands where we're coming from musically. In terms of the production, this time we're going to aim for a much more organic, raw sound. Rob 's really progressed as a drummer in the last year so I can't wait to hear him lay this stuff down in the studio. Once the drums are complete we head off on tour with DRAGONFORCE so we wont end up recording the guitars, bass and vocals etc until January.”

Watch Rob hitting his drums real hard while recording for the upcoming album at:

The band take a break and today kick off their tour with DRAGONFORCE, before returning to London for a headline show and resuming recordings. Catch Sylosis on tour with Dragonforce at the following shows:
