OF MICE & MEN
RETURN TO THE UK THIS APRIL WITH
ORIGINAL VOCALIST AND SOPHOMORE ALBUM NEWS!
Southern California rockers OF MICE & MEN are returning to the UK in April! With their reinvigorated line up including original vocalist Austin Carlile this is sure to be an unmissable tour as they supporting Asking Alexandria.
The band comments,
“With having recently made amends with our original vocalist, Austin Carlile, and not after discussing all of our previous disputes and issues we’ve had with each other (like any other relationship, its not always a friendly exchange of happy words) we’ve collectively decided to return to, or as close to, our original lineup as we could. To be put simply, both OM&M and Austin want to make another album together because we want give our fans the familiar sound they loved about our first album and build upon that for our follow up. We were willing to put our differences aside and re-establish our friendship and love for making music together. We also want to give you all the chance to hear our first album the way it was intended to be heard since due to prior circumstances…well, that’s all in the past now!
We greatly appreciate all of our fans sticking with us in 2010 and supporting the band with Jerry. We are also very grateful that he stepped up to the plate for us and helped us get through the relentless touring schedule we had. With that being said, we are all extremely excited to be reunited and are going to make another album we are proud of, just like the first and we hope you are too! There’s no behind the scenes anything, no huge fall out or disrespect towards anyone, contrary to what you may think or have read/heard. We just want to make the best album we possibly can and we are confident that together, with the reformed lineup, we will be able to make something amazing.
We have also added a new member, Alan Ashby, who will be playing guitar. Assuming the position of bass will be Shayley which as many of you saw on a couple Warped Tour dates was an easy transition for him. He will, of course, still be singing. Tino is on drums, Phil is on guitar and Austin is screaming. A freshly reformed OM&M for 2011. We are really excited for you to see what we are doing, how we do it, and what to expect!”

ROTEST THE HERO
Canadian rockers confirm the release of new studio album ‘Scurrilous’ for March 21st 2011 via Spinefarm Records UK
PROTEST THE HERO, the five Canadian rockers from Whitby in Ontario, will have their new/third studio album released on March 21st 2011 through Spinefarm Records UK.
Titled ‘Scurrilous’ and produced by Julius ‘Juice’ Butty / mixed by Machine, this 10-track offering is the follow-up to 2008’s sophomore release ‘Fortress’ (2008); as usual, the level of musicianship on display is truly dazzling from start to finish, with lead single/video ‘C’est La Vie’ leading the charge – all spiralling guitar, locomotive off-kilter rhythms (very much a PTH trademark) and huge soarin’ melodies.
Other tracks on the album include ‘Hair-Trigger’ (featuring the back-up vocals of Canadian folk artist Jadea Kelly, who has previously guested with the band both live & on record), ‘Moonlight’, ‘Dunsel’ & ‘Sex Tapes’; this time around, frontman Rody Walker has taken the lead on the lyric writing side, resulting in the most personal set of PTH lyrics to date, leaving his colleagues to unleash the musical fireworks – an adrenalized shred-fest that also delivers big-time on The Groove.
PROTEST THE HERO have just kicked off a world tour, which will see them playing right across Europe before heading back to Canada & the US; they are also scheduled to appear at Australia’s annual travelling Soundwave Festival.
PTH first came into being back in 1999, when the band members were just 14 years old, releasing their debut album ‘Kezia’ in 2006. The line-up has remained constant ever since.
The live CD/DVD ‘Gallop Meets The Earth’ came out in 2009.
ASKING ALEXANDRIA UK TOUR UPDATE
ASKING ALEXANDRIA has posted details of their amended tour dates, alongside the following statement:
“As you are all aware at this point in time, we are in the unfortunate position of having to reschedule a few of our UK tour dates. Please understand that this was not an easy decision for us and has taken a lot of thought and consideration to come to the conclusion that we have eventually reached. The reason for these shows will become clear in the coming weeks as we are unable to make public just now. You, our fans, are the reason for this bands success, your love and support has made this band what it is today, and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for that. We are asking you, and hoping that you will all understand and support us at this time. We have been presented with the most amazing opportunity which we feel could really take this band in the next step of our careers. It is a goal we have had since day one, and again it has been made obtainable due to your support of this band. Rather than just cancel these shows we have re-arranged them to another date, not far from the original date they were scheduled for. Thank you so much for all of your understanding and support in the matter. We really cannot wait to hang out with you all and see you at the shows.
Much love and mutual respect,
Ben Bruce – Asking Alexandria ”

CHTHONIC – Taiwanese Metal juggernauts announce return to the UK for first ever Hammerfest appearance in March 2011…
FRESH FROM a UK tour supporting Arch Enemy, Taiwanese ‘Oriental Metallers’ Chthonic have been added to the line-up of the third annual Hammerfest event in Prestatyn, North Wales – a three-day extravaganza put together by Metal Hammer magazine in the UK. Set to take place on March 18th, 19th & 20th, Chthonic will appear alongside some of metal’s foremost names, including Accept, Biohazard & Satyricon.
Following on from 2009’s well-received ‘Mirror Of Retribution’ album, Chthonic are currently putting together the material for the follow-up, due to be released in spring of 2011. Before this, the band’s 2005 album, ‘Seediq Bale’, will be granted a full re-issue, also through Spinefarm, with a cover of the Judas Priest classic ‘Painkiller’ due to be added as a bonus track.
Chthonic bassist and band-leader Doris Yeh has been rapidly gaining profile over the past few months, appearing in all manner of publications from the more extreme end of the metal press all the way through to glossy titles such as GQ & FHM; voted 2001’s ‘Goremate Of The Year’ by Gorezone Magazine and standing as one of Revolver Magazine’s ‘Hottest Chicks Of All Time’ (!), Doris commented on her group’s impending return to the UK:-
“After touring with Arch Enemy last November, we are thrilled to be coming back to the UK again, and we’re especially excited to be appearing at Hammerfest, where we’ll also be undertaking a signing session. We can’t wait to meet the fans – it’s such a cool thing for us!”
No strangers to the big stage, Chthonic have already appeared at Ozzfest in the US and Wacken Open Air in Germany, and further UK touring is due to take place at the end of 2011.
Swiss precision metallars confirm the release of new album ‘What Silence Hides’ for March 21st 2011 through Spinefarm Records UK…
FORMED IN 2006 by guitarists Fella & Rocco, Swiss outfit Dreamshade have their debut full-length album released through Spinefarm Records UK on March 21st 2011.
Titled ‘What Silence Hides’ and sitting loosely under the ‘melodic death metal’ banner, a genre that continues to be developed by their high-profile label-mates Children Of Bodom, Dreamshade succeed in bringing modern elements to the traditions of the music – the result being a fresh blend of melodic death & progressive metal.
Mixed at Studio Fredman in Sweden (a veritable Mecca for the melodic death metal scene) and mastered by the legendary George Marino at Sterling Sound in New York, the 10 tracks featured here are tightly arranged & expertly played, ranging from the genuinely melodic through to no-holds-barred, full-tilt fare. Strong haunting melodies, powerful hi-tech rhythms, atmospheric, emotional keyboards, soaring guitar hooks and aggressive screams & howls, it’s all here to be savoured and enjoyed, the whole thing wrapped up in the powerful artwork of Colin Marks from Rain Song Design.
AT THE start of the band’s career, it wasn’t easy for Fella & Rocco to find like-minded musicians capable of handling the demands of the music they were creating; however, once the full line-up was in place, the band began to appear on the bill at some of the most important European rock festivals, building their brand, spreading their music & message (initially via the self-funded, five-track ‘To The Edge Of Reality’ EP) and making it clear that a new name was now poised to take the metal world by the shoulders… and shake!
In short, ‘What Silence Hides’ is proof positive that heavy metal – far from showing any dearth of drama & ideas – continues to twist ‘n’ turn to exciting effect, forever finding new ways to light a fire under the senses… ALL of them!

Latest self-titled album from the aggressive/progressive metallars due to be released via Spinefarm Records UK on March 21st 2011…
PRODUCED BY J.JOUTSENNIEMI (noted for his work with Ensiferum, KIUAS and more) and mixed & mastered by Dan Swano (Swallow The Sun, etc.), ‘myGrain’ the album has all of the ingredients necessary to bring these wildly ambitious Finns to the attention of the metal-buying public at large.
Fusing powerful & memorable melodies with a sound that is expansive to the point of progressive (no longer a dirty word in 2011), this nine-track release is very much the culmination of all that has gone before; if previous albums such as ‘Orbit Dance’ and ‘Signs Of Existence’ were myGrain finding their musical feet, then ‘myGrain’ sees them standing very firm indeed, straddling the contemporary hard rock scene like a metal colossus!
At times futuristic, at times traditional, but ALWAYS delivered with a clear & present passion for their chosen craft, ‘myGrain’ is designed not just to make an impact but to leave a mark!
THE BAND first came into existence back in 2004, formed from the ashes
of the New Science Band. Right from the start, this Finnish sextet was determined to deliver both the metal and the melodies, and it was the overriding ambition of their music that – after a couple of independent releases – led to the current deal with Spinefarm.
The first fruit of this collaboration was the 11-track ‘Orbit Dance’ album, issued back in 2006, which expertly underlined the scope of the myGrain vision, fusing a trans-Atlantic awareness with melodic death metal of the Nordic style. Then, in 2008, came the follow-up release, ‘Signs Of Existence’, which showed a further honing of the myGrain style and the individual musicians playing with a greater all-round confidence.
By now, the music was sitting in a decidedly more original place – certainly a quality to be found on the new album; here, somewhere between the violent technicality of Children Of Bodom and the more crossover antics of In Flames, myGrain have laid claim to an approach (‘Space Metal’?) that is more progressive and more musically expansive than ever, without sacrificing the sheer weight of the overall sound. The BIG riffs and the keyboard soundscapes are still very much in evidence, supported by a greater technical grasp, plus vocals that veer between the brutal and the melodic to exciting & memorable effect.
Now confirmed to perform at Finnish Metal Expo in Helsinki in February of this year, a prestigious event of genuine international worth, the time is right for myGrain to turn some heads as well as batter them…
