Team Sonisphere is sad to say that it has now been confirmed that Sonisphere UK will take a year off in 2013.
The three Sonisphere Festivals to date at Knebworth in 2009/2010/2011 set a very high standard and indeed 2011 was voted the best festival line up by The UK Festival Awards.
We think it is really important that the event only runs when it has a line up that sets it apart from the competition whilst also carrying a ticket price that allows us to offer real value for money to the music fans. We were hoping to do that in 2013 but unfortunately it wasn’t possible to fulfil both aims with the principle problem of there being a lack of available headliners of the calibre of previous festivals at Knebworth. We made offers to over a dozen major artists but for various reasons none of these offers lead to securing a strong bill.
The good news is that the Sonispheres in Amneville, France and Milan, Italy are already on sale and UK fans who fancy jumping on a budget airline and seeing the mighty Iron Maiden at Sonisphere festivals in sunnier climates can buy tickets via www.Sonispherefestivals.com in pounds sterling.
Snowhill Park Amneville ( Metz ) Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June
Tickets £90 + booking fee
Milan, Fiera Milano Live Rho Saturday 8th June 2012
Tickets £38.50 + booking fee
Watch out for more Sonsiphere European news to be announced early 2013
We have already started work on Sonisphere UK 2014 so hope to be able to bring you news about that later next year.
BAD RELIGION ‘TRUE NORTH’
OUT NOW ON EPITAPH RECORDS
Los Angeles punk icons Bad Religion have just released the title song off their upcoming new album True North. The new single utilizes a wall of bristling guitars and charging punk rock beats to explore issues of alienation and loss informed by vocalist and co-songwriter Greg Graffin’s recent life experiences. The new album arrives January 21st via Epitaph Records.

“The song is written from the perspective of a kid who is running away,” Graffin explains. “He says ‘I’m out of here, I’m off to find true north.’ It’s about recognizing that you don’t fit in and trying to find a truth and purpose. Those are all classic punk themes. We still remember exactly what it feels like to be a disaffected kid in this world. And I think we were able to convey that particularly well on this album.”
Produced by the band and Joe Barresi, True North celebrates the power of cogent punk in the face of personal pain and adversity. On the new album, the storied band deliberately revisits and refines the powerful and melodic Southern California sound they helped to define. “We went back to our original mission statement of short concise bursts of melody and message,” co-songwriter and guitarist Brett Gurewitz explains. “The intent was to record stripped down punk songs without sacrificing any conceptual density.”
Bad Religion began in the sprawling suburbs surrounding Los Angeles. As insurgent teenage punks they offered an impassioned musical counterpoint to a dystopian culture of consumerism and anti-intellectualism. Founding members Greg Graffin, Brett Gurewitz and Jay Bentley were eventually joined by guitarists Greg Hetson from The Circle Jerks, Brian Baker of hardcore pioneers Minor Threat and a supremely talented drummer named Brooks Wackerman. In the following years the band was a major force in reinvigorating the modern punk movement, produced beloved international hits such as “Infected,” “21st Century (Digital Boy)” and “Sorrow” and has maintained an impassioned worldwide following of young and old who continue embrace a music that gives voice to, and celebrates, their dissent.
In a world still brimming with rampant anti-intellectualism, inequality and oppression, Bad Religion’s signature brand of sonically charged humanist dissent seems as relevant as ever.
Hailing from Essen, Germany, thrash metallers KREATOR will also appear at the festival in 2013, after releasing their 13th studio album earlier this year. Norway’s IMMORTAL and Gothenburg’s finest, AT THE GATES, will also both return to the Hellfest stages following previous appearances at the Festival, in 2010 and 2008 respectively.
Hellfest also boasts the addition of the iconic Californian outfit NEUROSIS to the bill, who have been described as “arguably the most influential band of the past two decades”.
Further bands added to the line up include;
3 DOORS DOWN
MY DYING BRIDE
THE GHOST INSIDE
UNCLE ACID AND THE DEADBEATS
